• Santa Rosa Church
Patron saint: St. Rose of Lima
Located in the district of Santa Rosa de Turrialba, just 3km from downtown
Rosa de Lima O.P. (Lima, Peru, April 30, 1586 – Lima, August 24, 1617) Mystic tertiary dominic canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671. It was the first American saint, exalted patron saint of Lima, in Peru (from 1669) the New World and the Philippines (since 1670). In addition, she is patron saint of educational institutions, police and army: Santa Rosa Catholic University (in Venezuela), National Police of the Republic of Peru and the Armed Forces of Argentina.
Born in the sixteenth century as Isabel Flores de Oliva, she was the daughter of Gaspar Flores, natural shooter of Banās de Montemayor, municipality of the province of Caceres (Spain). So says the plate in the House of Flowers, which is still preserved in that Caceres town. In 1545, Gaspar came from Spain, after passing through Puerto Rico and Panama, which were part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, arrived in Peru in 1547, as a Peacekeeper soldier Pedro de la Gasca, who restored the Royal Court in 1549, recovering the domain of the Crown after the usurpation of power by Gonzalo Pizarro, president of Peru from 1544 to 1548. Gaspar Flores was named shooter the March 9, 1557, by Don Andrés Hurtado de Mendoza, third viceroy of Peru from 1556 to 1561. The May 1, 1577, he married, in Lima, the Creole Maria Lima Oliva and Herrera, surnames from Aragon. That same year served as the guardian shooter V VirreyFrancisco of Toledo (1569-1581).
• Aquiares Church
Church Aquiares is located in Santa Rosa de Turrialba. It was built at the beginning of the 1930s, a coating of metal sheets was used on the outside and wood inside, the latter brought from Jamaica.
It houses an ancient altar imported Italy and valuable stained glass windows imported from Germany. Part of a coffee plantation created by Stanley Lindo in 1920. It was declared Architectural Historic Landmark, as Executive Decree No. 26271 -C, published in the Official Gazette No. 169 of 3 September 1997.
